1873. Closed 3. PCGS graded Proof 64 CAC Approved. Lightly toned. Only 1,100+ Proofs struck. Mintage in 1873 expanded some because there were multiple varieties for some of the denominations, which drew the attention of early day numismatists (PCGS # 3827) .

1873. Closed 3. PCGS graded Proof 64 CAC Approved. Light even toning. Only 1,100+ Proofs struck. A lustrous example of this elusive date, displaying light patina and close to the gem class; excellent nickel color. 1875. PCGS graded Proof 64 CAC Approved. Light even toning. Only 700+ Proofs struck. Excellent detail from a strong strike, the surfaces show glistening nickel-gray color. Don't expect the usual halfhearted impression left by the striking of the (sometimes worn) dies that made business strikes, for we are glad to report the opposite is true with this very attractive Proof. This is a very bold coin with sharp centers (PCGS # 3829) .
Estimated Value $350 - 375.

1931-S. PCGS graded MS-65 PQ CAC Approved. Untoned and well struck. A wonderful gem coin. Only the San Francisco Mint struck buffaloes in 1931 (1,200,000 in all). There were none minted in 1932-33, the years that marked the low point of the Great Depression. Fortunately, a fair number of original rolls of 1931-S survived and are the main source of these gorgeous MS65s. The rolls have long since been broken up and distributed into the marketplace (PCGS # 3971) .
